Year 9 Te Ao Haka
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr J. Tonga.
Year 9 Te Ao Haka is a glimpse into the Performing Arts space through a Te Ao Māori lens. We explore the key fundamentals or Māori performances and the unique take on māori movement and expression.
Generally focused on haka, waiata and moteatea, we also explore the similarities between other cultures and more modern forms of expression.
If you are interested in kapahaka and are looking to deepen your knowledge, then Te Ao Haka will not only support your journey of discovery but all challenge you to push your limits.
Recommended Prior Learning
No prior learning is needed but any experience in performance for kapahaka or other cultural performances whether it be on the Murihiku Polyfest stage, Ngā Putangitangi etc, will benefit you in your journey.
Pathway
Te Ao Haka is a look into Performing Arts from a Te Ao Māori view. Mostly focusing on Kapahaka and the skills within, we also compare and contrast other performance styles.
Disclaimer
Southland Boys' High School endeavours to timetable courses depending on students' needs, interests and future plans. Many factors can influence whether a course is able to be offered in the following year. These can include:
- Student demand
- Staff availability
- Resourcing
These factors can also impact on timetabling, and as a result students will be asked for input about any clashes that may occur.
Where a course is not able to be run, students' back-up subjects will be used. If there are issues with student selections and the timetabling process, students will have the opportunity to make a decision in conjunction with staff input on the best solution.
