Year 9 Drama

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr M. Buick.

This course offers a range of dramatic experiences, designed to explore skills and techniques and build confidence as both a solo performer and as a member of a group.  While students may have minimal performance experience, this course will help students think about the tools and tricks that can be used to manipulate an audience, and build on any prior dramatic experiences.  Students should expect to speak, move, act, read, interpret, discuss and experiment with Drama in a range of contexts.  Students will be encouraged to view and take part in performance opportunities outside of the classroom. While becoming an actor may not be your career plan, the communication and literacy skills that Drama provides make it useful across a huge variety of careers.

Recommended Prior Learning

An interest in performance is recommended but prior experience is not required.

Pathway

Disclaimer

Southland Boys' High School endeavours to timetable courses depending on students' needs, interests and future plans.  Many factors can influence whether a course is able to be offered in the following year.  These can include:

  • Student demand
  • Staff availability
  • Resourcing

These factors can also impact on timetabling, and as a result students will be asked for input about any clashes that may occur.

Where a course is not able to be run, students' back-up subjects will be used.  If there are issues with student selections and the timetabling process, students will have the opportunity to make a decision in conjunction with staff input on the best solution.
