NCEA Level 2 Outdoor Education

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Meijer.

This is a course that revolves around earning credits through participating in outdoor recreation activities.  As it is a course which offers NCEA , there are written aspects involved with earning the offered credits.  Potential outdoor activities involve tramping, camping, mountain biking, surfing and adventure-based learning.  Learning aspects involved in these activities include planning for safety, working effectively as a team, improving performance, training effectively for an activity and demonstrating leadership.

There will be a cost associated with this course.

Recommended Prior Learning

Literacy skills are important for assessments, a good fitness level is required, access to certain equipment is also necessary for school practical trips i.e sleeping bag, pack, etc.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Course costs are substantial as travel, accommodation, equipment hire, outdoor guide hire, and equipment costs are necessary for certain excursions.outdoor

Assessment Information

Assessments are in written form for all except the performance standard (91330). This will involve completing any pre trip planning in booklets, participating in the outdoor activity and then completing a written assessment, reflecting on the outdoor activity. The performance standard is purely practical, this involves practicing and completing an activity to the best of one's ability, and subsequently a grade will be awarded based on performance result.
