NCEA Level 2 Physics
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr I. Welsh.
Level 2 Physics is aimed at those students who have shown a flair for Mechanics in Level 1 Science and who are thinking about a career in Physical Sciences. This is a comprehensive course focusing on Mechanics and Electricity/Electromagnetism and is a pre-requisite for Level 3 Physics.
Recommended Prior Learning
Entry Criteria
Students from L1SCX - NCEA Level 1 Science classes
Students needs to have achieved 15 Level 1 Science credits including at least an Achieved in ONE external standard in order to cope with scientific thinking required for this course.
Students from L1SCK - NCEA Level 1 Science classes
Students needs to have achieved 15 Level 1 Science credits in order to cope with scientific thinking required for this course.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
• 1 x Lined refill paper
• 1 x 14K8 Graph paper
• 1 x Lever-arch Ring Binder
• 1 x Ruler
• Pens and pencils
• Scientific calculator would be an advantage, but not essential.
Pathway
Assessment Information
Achievement Standard 91169 will be assessed by way of an open-book, research-based, hand-written report.Achievement Standard 91168 will be assessed by way of an experiment involving working in pairs for data collection followed by individual analysis and reporting of findings.
Achievement Standard 91172 will be assessed via closed-book testing and will have a reassessment opportunity.
Achievement Standards 91170 and 91171 are External Standards assessed in November by way of exam.
