In our Year 10 course we will continue to develop key literacy skills to extend our student's capabilities and knowledge in reading and writing that allows students to accesss further learning and develop further life skills. In 2023 we will introduce the co-requisite literacy standards of Reading written texts to understand ideas and information and Writing texts to communicate ideas and information, (5 credits each) which will be a compulsory componemt of NCEA English from 2024 onwards. We want to prepare our students for the implemenation of these credits so we will provide practice opportunities throughout the year.

Southland Boys' High School endeavours to timetable courses depending on students' needs, interests and future plans. Many factors can influence whether a course is able to be offered in the following year. These can include:
These factors can also impact on timetabling, and as a result students will be asked for input about any clashes that may occur.
Where a course is not able to be run, students' back-up subjects will be used. If there are issues with student selections and the timetabling process, students will have the opportunity to make a decision in conjunction with staff input on the best solution.
