Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

Students entering Level 1 Science will have completed a satisfactory achievement inYear 10 NCEA Science course.


This Level 1 Science Course is intended for those who wish to enter a  career in Trades or those who may seek a university or polytechnic qualifications in Technology or Health-related vocations.  

The course content ranges from topics including: micro-organisms and food; heat energy and its transfer.  All credits are internally obtained (no external exams).

It also covers a choice of topics such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.  

As a field of study, science is a prerequisite for entry into science and technology-based careers.

Assessment Information

Internal Standards are assessed using a mixture of open book and closed book assessments. There is no provision for reassessments.

External Standards assessed in November by way of exam.
External Standards include a choice of one or more of the following:
Science 1.1 (4 crd); Science 1.5 (4 crd); Science 1.9 (4 crd).
