Course Overview:
This course is designed for students who are curious about media and eager to express themselves across various digital platforms. By the end of the course, they will have built a portfolio of diverse media projects, gained practical skills in multiple creative disciplines, and developed the confidence to explore the expansive field of media and communications. This dynamic course offers an opportunity to explore various aspects of media creation and production, blending creativity with technology. Whether passionate about storytelling, film, or digital design, students will gain the skills needed to become confident media creators.
What Students Will Learn:
- Photography and Movie Making: Students will master the art of visual storytelling through photography and video production. They will experiment with camera techniques, editing software, and special effects to create unique short films.
- Film Study and Creation: Students will analyse iconic movies to understand the elements of great filmmaking and use these insights to craft film projects, from concept to final cut.
- Reporting and Journalism: Students will learn the essentials of news reporting, including researching, interviewing, and writing compelling stories. They will develop the ability to present news in engaging ways that capture an audience’s attention.
- News Production: Students will gain hands-on experience in producing a school news bulletin, including scripting, filming, and editing news segments, and working as part of a team to share the latest school updates.
- Creative Apps and Digital Tools: Students will explore a variety of creative apps to enhance digital projects. They will use tools ranging from graphic design to animation to bring ideas to life.
- Podcast Creation: Students will enter the world of audio storytelling by creating podcasts, learning sound editing, scriptwriting, and the technical skills needed for professional-quality episodes.
- Digital and Radio Advertising: Students will discover the secrets behind successful advertising by creating digital and radio ads, including crafting catchy jingles and designing engaging visuals.
- Radio Creation: Students will develop skills in radio production, from planning shows to live broadcasting, including voice work, sound mixing, and show format creation.
- Social Media and Digital Citizenship: Students will examine the growing trends and influence of social media, exploring its impact on society and individuals. They will learn about potential issues that can arise, such as cyberbullying and misinformation, and discuss strategies for staying safe online, including the importance of privacy and digital footprints. This unit will focus on the concept of being a good digital citizen, promoting positive online behaviour, empathy, and respect. Students will also learn about effective social media campaigns, understanding what makes them successful, how they are marketed, and how people consume and engage with social media content.
